Nancy O. Alderman, MES, Founder and President 1997-2025
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Nancy Alderman, founder and President of Environment and Human Health, Inc.
Nancy was a tireless advocate for protecting human health from environmental hazards. She devoted her extraordinary energy, visionary leadership, and unwavering resolve to reducing harmful exposure to toxic chemicals, including those in pesticides, plastics, synthetic turf, flame retardants, vehicle exhaust, and wood smoke.
A true pioneer in environmental health, Nancy worked closely with physicians and scientists to lead groundbreaking research on environmental risks. Equally dedicated to public education, she made it her mission to ensure that communities were informed about these dangers. Her determined collaboration with policymakers and elected officials resulted in significant regulations and legislation that have shaped responsible public policy.
Nancy was extraordinary—passionate, fearless, compassionate, and deeply committed to making the world a healthier place. Her legacy lives on through the enduring work of Environment and Human Health, Inc., an organization that stands as a testament to her life’s mission.

Code (Wiley) and New Strategies for America's Watersheds (National Academy Press).
D. Barry Boyd, MD
Clinical Professor of Medicine, Yale University School of Medicine, Oncologist at Greenwich Hospital and Affiliate Member of the Yale Cancer Center. Research areas include environmental risk factors for cancer as well as cancer etiology, including nutrition and the role of insulin and IGF in malignancy. Dr. Boyd is the Founder and Director of Integrative Medicine at Greenwich Hospital — Yale Health System.
David R. Brown, ScD
Public Health Toxicologist and Director of Public Health Toxicology for Environment and Human Health, Inc.; Past Chief of Environmental Epidemiology and Occupational Health at Connecticut's Department of Health; Past Deputy Director of the Public Health Practice Group of ATSDR at the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.

Associate Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences,
Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Yale University School of Medicine; Director of the Early

Ambulatory Floor Chief, Breast and Gynecologic Oncology, Smilow Cancer Hospital. Recipient of many awards including the Clifton Howe Award given for clinical excellence to a medical oncology fellow.

President, Connecticut Association of Conservation and Inland Wetlands Commissions, Inc. (CACIWC); Coordinated programs in environmental toxicology & epidemiology, radiological health, surveillance for lead, influenza, & bioterrorism with the Connecticut Department of Public Health. Chairman, Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) Public Health Emergency Preparedness Subcommittee; former member, The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) Forum on Medical and Public Health Preparedness for Disasters and Emergencies. John P. Wargo, PhD
Tweedy Ordway Professor of Environmental Health and Politics, Yale University's School of the Environment. Author of Green Intelligence: Creating Environments That Protect Human Health published by Yale Press. The book won the Independent Publishers Award of Gold Medal in the field of "environment, ecology, and nature" for 2010. It also won the 2010 Connecticut Book Award in non-fiction. It was chosen as one of Scientific American's favorite books for 2009. Also author of Our Children's Toxic Legacy, which won the American Association Publisher's competition as best scholarly and professional book in an area of government and political science in 1997.
